God, fire and us.

Earth is one of many water planets and uniquely the only fire planet. Volcanic activity on other planets is not the same as fire. Fire requires heat, fuel and oxygen to burn. Photosynthesis gave rise to fire. At its root fire takes apart what photosynthesis creates. Without life fire can’t exist and in return fire has acted as a force to replenish and diversify life in nearly every ecosystem. We are above all a species evolutionarily shaped by fire.

Without fire there’d likely be no grasslands. It’s thought grasslands played a crucial role in early human evolution. Furthermore it played a pivotal role, during the ice age and at end of ice age it’s thought earth was set ablaze by fires started by fragments from a massive comet. Raging fires drove large mammals to extinction Including many predators. It’s oddly similar to mass dinosaur extinction that allowed our rodent common ancestors to thrive. Coming out of the ice age an explosion in human intelligence’s demonstrated. Cooking with fire allowed us to easily digest more nutrients required to power our brains which account for up to twenty percent of the bodies total energy consumption. From there we came to dominate the world and form larger complex societies, agriculture and so on. Most of all we continued to rely on fire in our long march through history.

We largely evolve from what was caused to happen, guided in our evolution. Without life fire wouldn’t exist without fire we wouldn’t exist as we do.

The Bible contains 500 reference to fire, 90 times it’s directly linked to GOD. Similarly fire is mentioned 200 times in the Quran. Fire is significant in many spiritual belief systems, cults and religions. Fire is considered a living power and the way GOD often communicates. It also symbolizes the transformative power of the Holy Spirit.  Holy fire.

The burning bush wasn’t a man made fire or a man made thing like a house being on fire. GOD reveals himself through two of his creations fundamental to us being us. In the imagery Moses can only see GOD from our vantage point through the fire to the bush, through which GOD spoke; in a chain of creation from GOD to us.
