News: Pope Francis says homosexuality is a sin but shouldn't be illegal, reminds us lacking charity with eachother is also a sin.
On January 24th 2023 Pope Francis angered tradtional Catholics when he declared laws criminalising homosexuality are unjust and being homesexual is not a crime on its own. However he did state such lifestyle choices are sinful and disordered while pointing out the difference between sin and crime. He reminded Catholics lacking charity towards one another is also a sin, saying "We are all children of GOD."
The Popes open acknowledgement of the issue is viewed as a more favourable stance towards the LGTBQ community and hailed as a victory for them, while angering many others. As always little appeaseses everyone or goes as far as some would like and the LGTBQ comunity soon complained about thier lifestyle on its own being called a sin.
He was later aksed for clairifcation by Rev. James Martin who runs an outreach minsitry for LGTBQ catholics about it being a sin. Pope Francis replied it is a sin in the same manner sex outside of marriage is a sin.
Same sex relationships are a legal crime in 67 countries world wide.
The Popes less hardline aproach towards the issue of LGTBQ can potentially lead towards less discrimination and better acceptance of LGTBQ community in joining the Church, making them more likely to seek to join the Church.
